The Irish greyhound industry suffered a huge loss early on Monday with the passing of Bord na gCon Director Frank O’Connell.
A bastion of the greyhound industry in the midlands for many years, Frank suffered his serious illness bravely and he will be sadly missed by his wide range of friends and everybody involved in greyhound sport.
He held the role of Chairman of Kilcohan Park Greyhound Stadium, Waterford since 2006 and sat on the local Board of Directors at Galway Greyhound Stadium, Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium and Limerick Greyhound Stadium. He proudly fulfilled all of his roles and was a very well known face in the promotion of the industry nationwide.
The thoughts of everybody involved with the Irish greyhound industry are with Frank’s wife Phil and the rest of his family as they wrestle with the reality of his passing. We extend the sincere sympathies of the greyhound world to the O’Connell family.
Dick O’Sullivan Chairman of Bord na gCon/Irish Greyhound Board “It was with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Frank O’Connell. I counted Frank not just as a colleague but as a friend and someone whose opinion I relied on and sought on a regular basis. Frank will long be remembered for his considerable contribution as a Board member and his death is a loss to the industry as a whole”.
May he rest in peace.
